WHEN THE 40's INSPRED THE 70's

The fashion of the 40s inspired that of the 70s by proposing wide trousers to wear with shirt and knit vest, or wide skirts with tight-fitting sweater and belt at the waist and dresses with straight shoulders, narrow waist. All this has been more timidly proposed in the decades to follow until the latest collections. Let see the Celine latest collections designed by Heidi Slimane which has clear references to the 70s as well as the Saint Laurent dresses designed by Anthony Vaccarello. But even the 40's they inspired Rodarte's sisters and Philosophy by Lorenzo Serafini, to name just a few, with silky dresses from the silhouette of the fourth decade of the last century.
Let see below some images the 40's style is on the left and the 70's on the right:

VINTAGE RETRO ISPIRED

70’s dresses in some ways reprised the 40s. The stylistic touchpoint that recalls the 1940s is the V-neck, the flared skirt with narrow waist and straight shoulders. I found a late 70's silk dress that could very well be mistaken for a 40s dress.

VINTAGE DRESS WITH FLARED SLEEVES

During the 40's sleeves go extreme in tiered frill, like sweet bells of flowers. Adrian, the famous costume designer, usually drew dresses with wide flared sleeves, for Joan Crawford to hide her extremely small shoulders. After some years, in the 70's, flared sleeves embellish dresses with simpler silhouettes, for a romantic fashion with a bohémian taste.

60's SHIRT WITH SMALL RUFFLES

During my research for vintage clothing and accessories, I usually find myself to ransack in the deeper corners of the drawers either on the top shelf, in the basement or in the garage, around shops and markets. This time it was so much simpler. This 60's flesh-pink silk shirt with small ruffles survived my mother's urge to throw all out, and it was there, motionless, for about 50 years, hanging in the my mom's closet.
