LONG LIFE FOR ESPADRILLES

Its name is derived from “esparto” which is a kind of plant that was originally burned then braided to make the soles. During the Fourteenth Century, the  espedrilles was the most commonly footwear used by Basques fishermen and farmers. At the beginning of the XIX century, Mauléon (a French city located in the Atlantic Pyrenees) began selling them in vast quantities. Around 1880, most espadrilles were sold to mine workers. In the late '20s, the Barcelona's Castagner brand started a production intended to laborers, but in the 40's, figures like Picasso, Dali and after Grace Kelly begin to wear them thus help in spreading. During the 1960 Yves St-Laurent asked for an espadrille with a heel, which had never been done before. Suddenly, it was all the rage!
In the 70s everyone wears espedrilles, at that time the classic flat rope and jute espadrilles but also with wedge and ankle lace up, are widespread.
Gradually, the most important fashion brands launch their models for the luxury market.
The sole is 100% natural, molds itself to the shape of the foot, and allows the skin to breathe, we like them!

Ci piacciono!
