TRIBUTO A OLIVIERO TOSCANI

 Oliviero Toscani è morto oggi all'età di 82 anni, per l'aggravarsi delle sue condizioni, da un paio d'anni soffriva di amiloidosi. Fotografo dalle intuizioni geniali e dalla carica provocatoria. Arriva ad una notorietà mondiale attraverso foto choc, ma anche messaggi sociali dal linguaggio universale. Figlio di un reporter del Corriere della Sera, studia fotografia alla prestigiosissima Kunstewerkschule di Zurigo. Da subito lavora per le maggiori testate di moda internazionali. Collabora con Vogue e si distingue per il suo stile diretto e essenziale a metà tra la verità della foto di reportage e la finzione della fotografia di moda. Determinante la forza creativa delle sue campagne pubblicitarie, Nell'82 comincia il suo sodalizio con Luciano Benetton. Responsabile del cambiamento del marchio da Benetton a United Colors of Benetton, ha avuto in questa azienda totale libertà sulle immagini e sulla comunicazione dal forte impatto sociale. Dal razzismo all' aids, dal bacio tra un prete e una suora, dai volti dei condannati a morte al corpo di una donna consumata dall'anoressia, tutte le sue campagne hanno lasciato il segno. Sempre con Benetton, in una villa del '600 della campagna trevigiana, ristrutturata dall'architetto Tadao Ando, fonda Fabbrica, bottega d'arte, laboratorio in cui crescere nuovi talenti creativi.  I lavori di Toscani sono stati esposti in molte parti del mondo, A fine settembre è riuscito a visitare la sua mostra Photography and Provocation al Museum für Gestaltung, una delle ultime apparizioni pubbliche.

A ROSE IN THE GARDEN - L'ATELIER DI CLAUDIA CHIANESE

Come un antico giardino della memoria, i profumi e i colori dell’infanzia, il ricordo di una corte fiorita in Sicilia tra rose, erbe aromatiche e agrumi. Questo è l’atelier di Claudia Chianese. Un luogo artistico, moderno e atemporale nel cuore del quartiere Monti, dove ogni oggetto, gioielli, fotografie, sculture e piccole creazioni poetiche, prende forma in un'atmosfera romantica e suggestiva. 

Fino al 23 dicembre aperto per poter ammirare le fotografie e i gioielli di Claudia Chianese ispirati ad un giardino di famiglia.

A GREAT PHOTOGRAPHER:SALLY MANN

Sally Mann was born in Lexington, Virginia in 1951. She is best known for her intimate portraits of her family, her young children and her husband, and for her evocative and resonant landscape work in the American South.
She produced landscapes and architectural photography, and she blended still life with elements of portraiture. But she truly found her metier with her second publication, a study of girlhood entitled At Twelve: Portraits of Young Women (1988). Between 1984 and 1994, she worked on the series, Immediate Family (1992), which focuses on her three children, who were then all aged under ten. While the series touches on ordinary moments in their daily lives—playing, sleeping, eating—it also speaks to larger themes such as death and cultural perceptions of sexuality.
The images of decadent Sally Mann have the power to remain viable in a timeless dimension, speak to us of love and death with intimate tones, steeped in nostalgia.

IT'S ALWAYS HER: CINDY SHERMAN, THIS TIME FOR GUCCI MUSEUM IN FLORENCE

Al Gucci Museum di  Piazza della Signoria a Firenze, ieri è stata inaugurata la mostra"Cindy Sherman: Early Works", i primi lavori di una delle artiste più influenti del nostro secolo saranno visibili fino al 9 giugno. Maestra del trasformismo e del travestimento Cindy Sherman ha convogliato nelle sue foto soprattutto, ma anche nei suoi video e nelle sue performance, indagini sociologiche, ricerche sull'identità e sul genere, cercando di catturare le diverse sfaccettature di un sè complesso come quello di ogni essere umano. Per farlo, in oltre 30 anni di carriera Cindy si è servita del suo corpo che ha trasformato di volta in volta come fosse un manichino. È stata fotografa, stylist e truccatrice di se stessa, impersonando ogni volta un diverso ruolo e una diversa personalità. Nei tre lavori d’inizio carriera esposti in questa mostra la vedremo impersonare prima un’attrice degli anni Trenta innamorata del regista di un film poliziesco, poi le diverse tipologie di persone che si spostano sugli autobus. Infine la vedremo, appena maggiorenne, intenta a provare abiti, in una pellicola che parla della figura femminile e del suo confrontarsi con la società: un video realizzato col compagno di college Roberto Longo. Davvero da non perdere! 

 Yesterday opened the exhibition "Cindy Sherman: Early Works", at the Gucci Museum Piazza della Signoria in Florence, the early works of one of the most influential artists of our century will be visible until June 9. Teacher of transformation and disguise Cindy Sherman conveyed especially in her pictures, but also in her videos and in her performances, sociological surveys, researches about gendern and identity, trying to capture the different facets of a complex self as the one of any human being. To do this, in more than 30-year career Cindy has used her body turned from time to time like a mannequin. It was a photographer, stylist and make-up artist herself, playing every time a different role and a different personality. In the three works of early career displayed in this exhibition, we will see her play as the an actress of the thirties in love with the director of a detective film, then playing as the different types of people who travel on buses. Finally, we will see her trying clothes in a film that speaks of the female figure and his confrontation with society: a video she made with her college friend's Roberto Longo. Not to be missed!

Foto Marvellini show in Rome

Della mitica Foto Marvellini è accertato solo che fu fondata negli anni in cui nacque la fotografia. Un'antica pubblicità, recitava: "Dai Fratelli Marvellini ritratti per tutti. Anche per chi non vuole essere ritratto". Con le successive generazioni l'archivio crebbe, fino a diventare una vasta galleria di personaggi fantomatici che pur bramando di posare per Foto Marvellini, desideravano restare anonime. La preziosa collezione, divulgata per volontà degli ultimi eredi, si trova in mostra da ieri fino al 7 novembre a Roma, in via Portuense 201 presso Label 201, in occasione dell'ottava edizione di Fotoleggendo. La location non poteva essere delle migliori: le mura scrostate, decrepite, della galleria si sposano alla perfezione con le cornici antiche, dalle forme più svariate, che valorizzano i ritratti dei clienti del primo studio fotografico, trasformati negli antenati dei supereroi della Marvel.

What we know about the legendary Foto Marvellini is that it was founded in the years in wich photography was born. In an old advertising, it was written : "From the Brothers Marvellini portraits for everyone. Even for those who do not want to be portrayed." With the successive generations the archive grew to become a large gallery of wired characters that wanted to pose for photos Marvellini, wished to remain anonymous. The valuable collection, disclosed  thansk to the will of the last heirs, is on view from yesterday until   November 7 in Rome, via Portunese 201 at Label 201 for the eighth edition of Fotoleggendo. The location could not be the best: the walls crumbling, decrepit of the  the gallery are a perfect match with the antique frames of various shapes, which enhance the portraits of  the customers of the first photographic studio transformed into the ancestors of the superheroes of the Marvel universe.
