Chanel called Elsa Schiaparelli "the artist who makes clothes."
Schiaparelli asked Dali, Cocteau, Berard to design fabrics and accessories. The surrealist movement influenced the world of fashion since the Thirties, creating very suggestive clothing. Mixing art and fashion she created an outrageous and irreverent style that gave her a great success.
Jean Cocteau draws to her delicate woman profiles embroidered from Lasagne, or faces illusionistically confused with silhouette of neoclassical columns and vases. These profiles were inspired by Paul Smith, Isa Arfen and MSGM for next winter's collections.

Schiaparelli chiese a Dalì, Cocteau, Bérard di disegnare stoffe e accessori. Il movimento surrealista influenzò il mondo della moda dagli anni Trenta, dando vita ad abiti particolarmente suggestivi. Mescolando arte e moda creò uno stile oltraggioso e irriverente che le diede un grande successo.
Jean Cocteau le disegna delicati profili di donna ricamati poi da Lasagne, oppure volti illusionisticamente confusi con silhouette di colonne e di vasi neoclassici. A questi profili si sono ispirati Paul Smith, Isa Arfen e MSGM per la collezione del prossimo inverno.

The history of the slip dress, and its predecessor the eighteenth century robe volante and the chemise à la reine, is the history of a garment's transition from the boudoir dress become eveningwear. The underwear influences in higt fashion have been either from lingerie or from corsetry. The former is loose, fluid and stresses the sensual pleasure of fabric and expensive craftsmanship, the latter is a structured, rigid. The reversal effected by underwear as outwear also links to decostruction in fashion in the way it brings inside to out structurally, rather than in terms of the cultural meanings associated with underwear, class, intimacy and eroticism.
