NEW DESIGNERS: FFIXXED

ffiXXed is a collaborative art and design label initiated by artist and designers Kain Picken and Fiona Lau in Berlin, 2008. Since then the ffiXXed headquarters has remained mobile, gravitating to whatever global centers in no particular order. After moving between studio spaces in Berlin, Hong Kong, New York and Melbourne, ffiXXed established their own in-house production studio and residence in Shenzhen, China. The unisex ready-to-wear fashion label evolves alongside a range of other art and design-related activities, exploring new protocols for the production and consumption of contemporary fashion.

POP ART TODAY: Mr. BRAINWASH

Thierry Guetta, aka Mr.Brainwash, is a french street artist based in Los Angles. Guetta was first introduced to street art by his cousin, the street artist Invader. According to the Banksy-directed film Exit Through the Gift Shop, Guetta began as a proprietor of a clothing store and amateur videographer who filmed street artists through the 2000s and "evolved" into an artist in his own right in a matter of weeks after an off-hand suggestion from Banksy. Mr.Brainwash not typically have much physical involvement in the construction of the artwork attributed to him; he passes ideas to his creative team, mostly graphic designers who carry out the artistic side instead of Guetta. In the works of Mr. Brainwash conceptuality is virtually nonexistent. It's just a reworking in photo-shop in hyper-pop version of the already existing cynical pop art of Warhol, but certainly can not deny the obvious energy that they give off. Guetta is left by the inhale icons from images and characteristics of mass culture, and introducing them by imposing a dimension of artistic legitimacy. Guetta also has come to symbolize the capitalist turn that street art has taken in recent years.

VERSACE- POP ART COLLECTION

Historical is the 91's Versace Collection inspired by pop-art. Versace's passion for Andy Warhol was fueled by one of his first trips to New York and his association of Warhol with media awareness, a lively art scene, appreciation of art and design, and the synthesis of art and living that Warhol practiced. The Warhol dresses appear in the same collection as the "Vogue" dresses, in each case, the designer assumed media and visual culture, the pairing of James Dean and Marilyn Monroe is like the Pop Art Medusa emblem already an icon for Versace.
