DISTURBANCES - LEONID TSVETKOV

Last Friday, the Leonid Tsvetkov's new exhibition opened at the ex Elettrofonica. A little white space in Trastevere I was not aware of, and that with its futuristic design welcomes very well Tsvetkov's works, made of columns composed with casts of food waste. It is funny to recognize in Leonid Tsvetkov's columns, McDonald's bowl or the bottle of water that once assembled cross-refer to the old Byzantine columns. So the artist gives back life and value to daily-life objects that have a design which surely has been very well thought but that it is ignored by the distracted consumer.
The project was born from the observation of Monte Testaccio in Rome, an artificial hill created with discarded amphorae coming from Spain, that at the time were used as containers for oil.
The term Disturbances, chosen by the artist as the title of the "site specific"project for Ex Elettrofonica, is used by archeologists to define any activity that can damage an archeological site.  Disturbance is the very waste that we produce but it is also nature, slowly taking back what man has taken away from it.

Start today until August 31, Frida Kahlo exhibition  at Scuderie del Quirinale.
"I'm not sick, I'm broken. But I'm happy as long as I can paint."
Over forty portraits and self-portraits, including her extremely celebrated Self-portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird painted in 1940 which is on display in Italy for the very first time, and her Self-portrait Wearing a Velvet Dress 1926, which she painted at the age of only nineteen for her beloved Alejandro Gòmez Arias. Also shown a selection of drawings and the famous Plaster Corset in which Frida was entrapped from 1950, the difficult years of her illness, and which she painted with a set of symbols. And lastly, a selection of truly outstanding photographs, in particular those produced by Nickolas Muray including Frida on White Bench, New York, 1939 which was later to become one of Vogue Magazine's most celebrated cover pictures.
Giving free rein to her rebellious spirit, she reassessed the native past and traditions of Mexican folklore, fully-fledged identity codes that generated an unprecedented fusion between self-expression and the language, the imagination, the colours and the symbols of Mexican popular culture.
Don't miss!
