KIMONO COAT

Early last century, influences from the Orient influenced art and fashion.
Paul Poiret and Mariano Fortuny were the two designers who have brought more fabrics and designs inspired by the Rising Sun in fashion. Paul Poiret became famous with his controversial kimono coat and similar, loose-fitting designs created specifically for an uncorseted, slim figure. His designs were exotic; the Russian ballet, Orientalism, and African art, as interpreted by the cubists, were typical influences. Paul Poiret called this item a "kimono coat." The pieces constructed the coat were cut straight. East Asia, for him, was an extremely ambiguous concept, as it was for many contemporary Westerners and differences between Japanese garments, and even between Japan and China, were obscure. Kimono consisted of a natural drape of lithe cloth flowing down from the shoulders enveloping the body.
Mariano Fortuny also closely studied kimono, influenced by his father, a Spanish painter who was immersed in Japan art in Paris, he became familiar with kimono from his childhood. The influence of kimono can be seen in many aspects of Fortuny's clothing, including the composition of placing a supporting point on the shoulders, and the citing of patterns.
From then to now designers like McQueen, Galliano, Sarah Burton, continue to revisit the classic oriental kimono.

ANISH KAPOOR AT CASAMADRE

THE ANISH KAPOOR OPENING EXHIBITION YESTERDAY AT CASAMADRE ART GALLERY IN NAPLES.
WHILE I LIQUEFIED FOR THE HOT, THE SILICONE AND RED PIGMENTS WORKS AND THOSE OF WAX, FORTUNATELY THEY REMAINED INTACT.
A CYCLE OF FOUR DRAWINGS AND SIX SCULPTURES  LINKED TO THE THEME OF ROTATION; IN THE LAST ROOM: THE ALUMINIUM MIRROR,  A MIRROR GAME THAT PLAYING WITH  EFFECTS BETWEEN CONCAVE AND CONVEX.
KAPOOR'S WORKS ARE CONCEPTUALLY SPATIAL, PURE ABSTRACTIONS, MEASUREMENTS OF THE INFINITE, OF ABSENCE MORE THAN PRESENCE; IS ACTION IS NEVER NORMATIVE OR IMPOSITIONAL. HIS SCULPTURES ARE SUSPENDED BETWEEN THE MATERIAL AND IMMATERIAL, HARD AND SOFT, SOLID AND FLUID, WEIGHT AND LIGHTNESS, LIGHT AND DARKNESS, AND THE GESTURE THEY INTRODUCE ALSO OSCILLATES BETWEEN STRENGTH AND ABANDONMENT.
HOW CAN WE DESCRIBE THE WORKS IN THIS EXHIBITION: FORMS IN MOTION, REFLECTING FORMS, KAPOOR'S SCULPTURAL OBJECTS ARE INTELLECTUAL ACTS SHAPED BY THE UNCERTAIN  ETYMOLOGY OF OBIECTUM, TO UNDERSTAND KAPOOR'S VIEWPOINT, WE MUST THINK OF OBJECTS TOGETHER WITH SPACE, FOR THE ARTIST OBIECTUM IS AN INDETERMINATE CONCEPT, A NATURALLY INFINITE POSSIBILITY, NOT VISIBLE OBJECTS THAT WE HAVE POSITIONED IN SPACE, BUT THE OBJECT AS A UNIQUE EXTENSION- HIDDEN, COMPRESSED, SWALLOWED UP IN FORMS,  IS THE PRINCIPAL THEME OF HIS WORK.
THE SCULPTURES INSIST ON COLLECTING AND CONCENTRATING WITHIN THEMSELVES AS MUCH OF THE EXTERNAL WORLD POSSIBLE, AS IF FORM WERE AN INNER QUALITY OF THINGS, UNATTAINABLE AND INTANGIBLE; AS IF THE SCULPTOR'S FATE WERE TO ALLOW THIS TO SHINE THROUGH, CROSSING OVER TOWARD WHAT WE CAN NEITHER CONCEDE NOR COMPREHEND.
FUNDAMENTALLY ALL KAPOOR'S ART CONVEYS A SPACE THAT IS SUCKED UP AND CONDENSED INTO OBJECTS THAT REMAIN MUTE AND INEXPRESSIVE, PERFECTLY EMPTY, EVEN IF THEY SEEM LIKE PRESENCES THAT ARE CORPOREAL  AND BOUNDLESS, OR INDEFINITE AND FLEETING, LIKE SOME OF THESE WORKS IN THIS EXHIBITION.

HA INAUGURATO IERI A CASAMADRE, LA GALLERIA D'ARTE CONTEMPORANEA A PIAZZA DEI MARTIRI A NAPOLI, LA MOSTRA DI ANISH KAPOOR.
MENTRE IO MI SCIOGLIEVO DAL CALDO LE OPERE  DI SILICONE E PIGMENTI  ROSSI E QUELLE DI CERA  FORTUNATAMENTE SONO RIMASTE INTATTE.
UN CICLO DI QUATTRO DISEGNI E SEI SCULTURE LEGATI DAL TEMA DELLA ROTAZIONE, NELL'ULTIMA SALA: L'ALLUMINIUM MIRROR, UN GIOCO DI SPECCHI CHE GIOCA CON GLI EFFETTI TRA CONCAVO E CONVESSO.
LE OPERE DI KAPOOR SONO CONCETTUALMENTE SPAZIALI, PURE ASTRAZIONI, MISURAZIONI DELL'INFINITO, DELL'ASSENZA PIÙ CHE DELLA PRESENZA. E RICONOSCERE CHE LA SUA AZIONE NON È MAI NORMATIVA NÉ IMPOSITIVA: SE LE SCULTURE SONO SOSPESE TRA MATERIALE E IMMATERIALE, DURO E MORBIDO, SOLIDO E FLUIDO, PESO E LEGGEREZZA, LUCE E OSCURITÀ, ANCHE IL GESTO CHE LE METTE AL MONDO OSCILLA TRA FORZA E ABBANDONO.
COME DESCRIVERE I LAVORI PRESENTI IN QUESTA MOSTRA, FORME IN MOVIMENTO, RIFLETTENTI, PER CAPIRE IL PUNTO DI VISTA DI KAPOOR SI DOVREBBE POTER PENSARE GLI OGGETTI INSIEME CON LO SPAZIO, L'OBIECTUM PER L'ARTISTA È UN CONCETTO INDETERMINATO, POSSIBILITÀ TENDENZIALMENTE INFINITA NON GLI OGGETTI VISIBILI NELLO SPAZIO POSTO LÌ DA NOI, MA L'OGGETTO COME UN'UNICA ESTENSIONE NASCOSTA, COMPRESSA, INGHIOTTITA NELLE FORME SAREBBE IL TEMA PRINCIPALE DELLA SUA OPERA.
LE SCULTURE INSISTONO NEL RACCOGLIERE E CONCENTRARE IN SÉ QUANTO PIÙ MONDO ESTERNO È POSSIBILE, COME SE LA FORMA FOSSE UNA QUALITÀ INTERIORE DELLE COSE, IRRAGGIUNGIBILE E INTANGIBILE. E FOSSE DESTINO DELLA SCULTORE FAR SÌ CHE POSSA TRASPARIRE, CREANDO UN VARCO VERSO CIÒ CHE NON SI DÀ, NÉ SI PUÒ COGLIERE.
IN FONDO, TUTTA L'ARTE DI KAPOOR CI PARLA DI UN SPAZIO CHE È RISUCCHIATO E CONDENSATO IN OGGETTI CHE RESTANO MUTI E INESPRESSIVI, PERFETTAMENTE VUOTI, SE PURE SI DANNO COME PRESENZE CORPOSE E SMISURATE O INDEFINITE E SFUGGENTI COME ALCUNI LAVORI QUI IN MOSTRA.

NEW DESIGNERS:ETIENNE DEROEUX

"I'm driven by an interest in the history of sportswear, which I subtly merge with clean architectural lines and volumes. I also believe luxury should be in the quality and traceability of the materials rather than in a logo, so I produce in a totally transparent way, using natural fibres"-declares the designer Etienne Deroeux. After studying fashion at Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts and La Cambre School of Visual Arts in Brussels, Etienne DerÅ“ux established his namesake brand in France. Sportswear, clean lines and quality manufacturing transpire through his creations, building a contemporary wardrobe of sensuality and raw elegance where forms always follow function.

MIMMO JODICE-ATTESA EXHIBITION AT MADRE MUSEUM
