THE CAPE IS BACK

The cape is back after years of absence from the catwalks.
Recurrent cycles of fashion: sporadic sightings in the 80's and 90's thanks to intellectuals Japanese designers. Very fashionable during the 70's, it was large and casual,  made in warm and enveloping fabrics; most glamorous in the 50's, unforgettable capes by Balmain worn over a slim-fitting, belted dress.  I really love the ethnic-inspired capes by Poul Poiret  with paisley prints and trimmed with fur at the collar and cuffs that date back to the 20's as well as those embroidered for evening dresses by Jeanne Lanvin.
On the catwalks today a cheerful mix of styles, like we got used to in this millennium.

CAPE

Capes were common in medieval Europe, especially when combined with a hood in the chaperon, and have had periodic returns to fashion, for example, in nineteenth-century Europe. In the Victorian age, capes and wraps, sometimes embroidered or with paisley motifs for women, were alternated with black, fur-lined capes for men. From 1910, the cape began to come into its moment. Paul Poiret was definitely one of the first tailors responsible for the transformation of the cape, playing with its shape in various forms. Actually when I found this cape I immediately thought .. little red riding hood.
