SIXTIES AGAIN AND AGAIN

They never bore us, the 1960s probably were among the most revolutionary in the world of fashion, and even today they are an inspiration for many designers and young fashionistas

AU REVOIR HUBERT DE GIVENCHY

Hubert de Givenchy made his debut at the age of 25 in 1952. He had immediate success. There was no newspaper that does not speak of the blouse "Bettina", which bears the name of the most popular model of the time. The year after the decisive meeting with Audrey Hepburn, his absolute muse, she modelled many signatures pieces by Givenchy that made debut in the famous movie Breakfast at Tiffanys and many of her other films. Hepburn was also spotted wearing his pieces in her personal life as well.
Givenchy's most famous signature pieces was the sack dress (1953), the wraparound cloak (1958), the balloon skirt, the 'bustier' dress (1969).
Comfort and elegance was the key that Givenchy wanted to create in his line. He created outfits inspired by active wear which were: apron dresses, impeccable suits and floral trousers.
Despite the apprenticeship with Jacques Fath, Robert Piguet and Elsa Schiaparelli,
Christobal Balenciaga was his icon, the one he considers the master of architectural and sculptural creation of dresses.
When the Spanish tailor in 1968 retires from high fashion, he inherited the prestigious clientele: actresses and women of the international jet set like the Duchess of Windsor, Lauren Bacall, Grace Kelly, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietriche and Jacqueline Onassis.
After more than 30 years of success in 1988, LVMH Group took ownership of the Givenchy company and in 1995 was his fashionable farewell.
The creative direction of the brand was entrusted to John Galliano, then to Alexander McQueen, and from 2001 to 2004 to Julien Macdonald, until last year with Riccardo Tisci. The creative director today is the talented Clare Waight Keller who carries on the name and the heritage of the brand. Hubert de Givenchy passed away three days ago on March 10th at the age 91.

Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietriche e Jacqueline Onassis.

70's WHITE GOWN

White gown became a popular option in 1840, after the marriage of Queen Victoria to Albert of Saxe-Coburg, when Victoria wore a white gown trimmed with Honiton lace. Illustrations of the wedding were widely published, and many brides opted for white in accordance with the Queen's choice.
But today you don't have to think about a wedding dress if you wear a long and white dress. It gives more light than a black dress, it's less ordinary and more dramatic than black one, and at the first sight skin acquires freshness.
Many stars have chosen to wear white gowns for photo shoots, red carpet and important events.
Have a look to the gallery below:

SIXTIES DRESS AND SHOES

During the sixties, for the first time, London, not Paris, was the center of the fashion world.
Mary Quant, Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton, the Swinging London influenced the catwalks of the time. Bright, swirling colors, news materials such as plastics and shiny metallic fabrics, short skirts, optical pattern and "A line" for dresses and coat. A young fashion that creates a break with the sober and sophisticated clothes worn by "the ladies" of the 50's.

SIXTIES BAG

Less practical of current bags, where we can put everything, during the sixties bags were smaller, often stiff, and with short handles to hold just a lipstick, face powder, a little mirror and a kleenex pocket.
