A YEAR OF BIZANTINA

My adoration for these bags is not a mystery. I've already written about the Bizantina bag a year ago after I saw it for the first time in Moscow in the elevator of the Metropol Hotel in the hands of its creator Benedetta Lignani Marchesani that has created the bags together with her daughter Caterina Mancinelli Scotti. This year Bizantina turns one and its aniversary is celbrated with a new colorful collection preserving all of its characteristics: the precious details such as the embroidered label with logo and number, the silver and brass clip in turtle shape taken from an old Ottoman design, the lining in silk and the silk velvet ikat weaved with antique looms of Bukhara (Uzbekistan). The Bizantinas can be found only in carefully selected niche shops like Josephine de Huertas in Rome's Via del Governo Vecchio.

 La mia adorazione per queste borse non è un mistero. Ne ho già scritto un anno fa quando l' ho vista per la prima volta a Mosca nell'ascensore dell'Hotel Metropol stretta tra le mani della sua creatrice: Benedetta Lignani Marchesani, che insieme alla figlia Caterina Mancinelli Scotti ha ideato appunto la Bizantina Bag. La Bizantina compie un anno e festeggia con una nuova collezione coloratissima che mantiene intatte tutte le sue caratteristiche: le rifiniture preziose come l'etichetta ricamata con logo e numero, il fermaglio in argento e ottone a forma di tartaruga ripreso da un antico disegno ottomano, la fodera in seta e gli ikat di velluto in seta tessuti con antichi telai di Bukhara (Uzbekistan).
Si trovano solo in selezionatissimi negozi di nicchia, a roma da Josephine de Huertas in Via del Governo Vecchio.

SPICE BAZAR

The Spice Bazar, is the second largest covered shopping complex after the Grand Bazar. Here you can find all varieties of spices, herbal teas ,dried fruit,nuts and seeds.
Il Bazar delle Spezie è il secondo mercato coperto dopo il Gran Bazar. Qui si possono trovare tutte le varietà di spezie, erbe per infusi, frutta secca, noci, nocciole e semi.

GRAN BAZAR

The Grand Bazaar, Kapalıçarşı, is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, and it's easy to get lost in the maze of streets full of colorful shops. The construction of the future Grand Bazaar's core started during the 1455/56, shortly after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople. Kapalicarsi, ossia il Gran Bazar, risale al 1453, periodo in cui gli Ottomani conquistarono Istanbul. E' uno dei più grandi mercati al coperto, ed è facile perdersi nei labirinti delle strade piene di negozi con merci colorate.

SULTAN CAFTANS

The Topkapi Palace's sultans clothes collection  has the largest variety of examples of Ottoman art in the processing of the fabric, there are clothes that belong at the time of the sultans ranging from the fifteenth century to the early twentieth. In the Ottoman Empire, the choice of clothes was not based only on the aesthetics or functionality, but these were the symbol of social status, ethnic and professional. The Topkapi Palace museum's collection contains many kaftans made ​​with Italian fabrics. The appreciation of the Italian fabrics, seems to be caused not only by the particular designs and innovative compositions of these fabrics, but also from the use of the color red and gold during their production.

La collezione degli abiti dei sultani del Topkapi Palace comprende la più grande varietà di esempi dell'arte ottomana nella lavorazione della stoffa, ci sono abiti che appartengono all'epoca che va dal XV sec agli inizi del XX. Nell'impero Ottomano, la scelta degli abiti non si basava solo sull'estetica o sulla funzionalità, ma questi erano il simbolo di uno status sociale, etnico e professionale.
La collezione del museo del Topkapi Palace contiene molti caffettani fatti con stoffe italiane. L'apprezzamento nei confronti delle stoffe italiane, sembra essere suscitato non solo dai disegni particolari e dalle composizioni innovative di queste stoffe, ma anche dall'utilizzo del colore rosso e dell'oro durante la loro produzione.

BACK IN ISTANBUL-GALATA

Back in Istanbul, Galata district, full of  clothes shops and musical instruments, animated coffee shops and clubs from day to night. From the tower you can get an idea of the greatness of this city. A stroll to the Basilica Cistern, commissioned by Justinian to store water for the Grand Palace is a refreshing break in a sunny day.
 Tornati a Istanbul, quartiere Galata, pieno di negozietti di vestiti e di strumenti musicali, baretti animati dal giorno alla notte, dalla torre ci si può fare un'idea della grandezza di questa città. Un giretto alla Cisterna Basilica, commissionata da Giustiniano per immagazzinare l'acqua per il gran Palazzo è una pausa rinfrescante se il sole è cocente.

EPHESUS

Ephesus, was one of the great cities of the Greeks in Asia Minor and home to the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.In 268 AD, the Temple was destroyed or damaged in a raid by the Goths. The mythical founder of the city was a prince of Athens named Androklos, who had to leave his country after the death of his father, King Kadros. According to the legend, he founded Ephesus on the place where the oracle of Delphi became reality. During his reign the city began to prosper.
Efeso fu una delle più importanti città greche in Asia Minore, la città era così potente che qui fu edificato il tempio di Artemide, dea della fertilità, ritenuto all'epoca una delle sette meraviglie del mondo, raso definitivamente al suolo nel 401 per ordine di Giovanni Crisostomo, arcivescovo di Costantinopoli. La leggenda narra che nel X sec a.C. il principe Androclo a causa delle continue incursioni degli Ioni, decise di trasferire in un luogo più sicuro il suo insediamento e per decidere dove stabilirsi consultò l'oracolo di Delphi. Durante il suo regno la città divenne molto prospera.

PAMUKKALE

Pamuk in turkish means cotton, and in Pamukkale there are mountains formed by layers of calcium that seem  cotton balls. The white is blinding and natural pools have warm waters, rich in minerals. Above the natural rock pools overlook the ancient Roman spa, then Byzantine of Hierapolis. The nature and history of this place make it a must-see.
Pamuk in turco significa cotone, e a Pamukkale ci sono montagne formatesi da stratificazioni di calcio che a guardarle sembrano batuffoli di cotone. Il bianco è accecante e le piscine naturali hanno acque calde e ricche di minerali. Sopra le vasche troneggia l'antico centro termale romano, poi bizantino di Hierapolis.La natura e la storia di questo posto la rendono una meta imperdibile.
