FUTURDOME A-I-R | SUMMER IN

FuturDome A-I-R, Artist In Residence, presents Summer In, a residency program that from May 18 to July 31, 2020 allows access to its spaces to four Italian artists.
Four artists who will work in four different rooms of the building, selected according to different compositional and technical needs. The exhibition and work spaces do not provide admission to the public, but allow the artists to reside and, also, to stay, in complete safety and autonomy, within the 2000 square meters of the building in Via Giovanni Paisiello 6. The residence will allow, by appointment, curators, collectors, journalists but also external visitors to attend, both live and through conversations via Instagram and Facebook, the process of elaboration of four new projects.
 Silvia Hell (1983, Bolzano), Domenico Antonio Mancini (1980, Naples), Fabrizio Perghem (1981, Rovereto) and Sara Ravelli (1993, Crema) will have the opportunity to develop new works that will be part of an initial approach and familiarisation with the spaces of FuturDome. In view of future monographic exhibition projects. During the residency, the four artists will have the opportunity to use every element of the building and every material they will be able to appropriate, also relying on the different companies that have interacted with FuturDome in recent years for their productions. At the end of the residency, the final works will be presented, which will be marked and enriched by six meetings, scheduled every ten days, with different professionals, among them: Diego Bergamaschi (collector, art manager), Elena Bordignon (ATP Diary director), Barbara Casavecchia (critic, curator), Annette Hofmann (art dealer, researcher), Claudia Santeroni (curator, coordinator of The Blank), Mauro Mattei (collector, founder of MMAT), Maria Chiara Valacchi (critic, curator). The dates of the meetings between artists and professionals are: Friday, 29 May; Wednesday, 10 June; Thursday, 18 June; Tuesday, 30 June; Thursday, 9 July; Tuesday, 21 July; Thursday, 30 July. Summer In, in the domestic spaces of FuturDome, develops as a dedicated isolation program. Today, through a research on light by Silvia Hell, a delocalization project of Domenico Antonio Mancini’s studio, a sound installation by Fabrizio Perghem and the new sculptures by Sara Ravelli, how could we go back to perceiving space and how will we remember the experience of approaching a work of art? What new message, what new perceptive artwork should the media convey to a small group of people? If virtual reality will be, month after month, superim- posed on the projects dedicated to reality itself, what will be its final result, its final matter? When will a work of art be finished, ready to be exhibited and when will it be considered unfin- ished? And how can one keep up with the expectations of the public, when the mere fact of visiting an exhibition will be considered a considerable effort?

THE ORIGIN OF GUCCI'S ICONIC TROMPE L'OEIL BOW

This is the origin of the iconic trompe l'oeil bow that characterized many dresses designed by Alessandro Michele for Gucci. The embroidered bow dress worn by Angelica Huston dates back to 1970 to which certainly or unintentionally (who knows) the talented Roman designer was inspired.

WHEN THE 40's INSPRED THE 70's

The fashion of the 40s inspired that of the 70s by proposing wide trousers to wear with shirt and knit vest, or wide skirts with tight-fitting sweater and belt at the waist and dresses with straight shoulders, narrow waist. All this has been more timidly proposed in the decades to follow until the latest collections. Let see the Celine latest collections designed by Heidi Slimane which has clear references to the 70s as well as the Saint Laurent dresses designed by Anthony Vaccarello. But even the 40's they inspired Rodarte's sisters and Philosophy by Lorenzo Serafini, to name just a few, with silky dresses from the silhouette of the fourth decade of the last century.

ESTHER PERBANDT: THE LIGHT IN BLACK

I confess, from the first episode of 'Making the cut' (the Fashion Contest television series created and presented by Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn for Prime Video), I cheered for Esther. The money prize it was one million dollars to invest into their brand and the winner may be able to publish their own fashion brand on Amazon. . The final took place on April 24th, Esther has reached the final but the winner was the talented Californian designer: Jonny Cota. The season finale of Making the Cut, leaves the last two designers to present a business pitch to the President of Amazon Fashion and showcase a final twelve to fourteen look collection. I think what Amazon Fashion and the judges wanted was some color,  people probably want more variety, and the all-black universe by Ester is her identity, but maybe it is also her limit. However, I loved her collections and especially the search for details in her clothes and accessories, the gold jewellery are amazing.
  Esther Perbandt was born and bred in Berlin, toughened up in Moscow and polished in Paris, and she perfectly mixes the style of these three metropolises in her collections. The creations by Esther Perbandt express a strong sense of personality, autonomy, intersectionality, and individuality. The exciting juxtaposition of uniforms and, at the same time, strong non-binary personalities. Her pieces are unique and full of character, captivating, deconstructed silhouettes combined with classical tailoring details. She metaphorically portrays rainbows in black by applying different materials, haptics, layers and shades. To her, black is colorful, it’s magical, elegant, and graceful. (Black supports retreat and distinction, it gathers light and keeps the heat.) Esther launched her eponymous brand 15 years ago. The brand is more than fashion – it is a part of the essence of the Berlin Lifestyle.
Next time I go to Berlin I absolutely have to visit her store in Almstadtstraße 3.

70’s dresses in some ways reprised the 40s. The stylistic touchpoint that recalls the 1940s is the V-neck, the flared skirt with narrow waist and straight shoulders. I found a late 70's silk dress that could very well be mistaken for a 40s dress.
