AKA JEWELLERY-MOST MINIMAL DETAILS WITH A MAXIMUM FUNCTION

‘Aka jewellery’ is a studio brand handmade by designer Ausra Bankauskaite. Trained in metal-working and jewelry-design, Ausra Bankauskaite began creating contemporary pieces that bridged the worlds of art object and jewelry. Aware of the dual nature of her designs, Ausra ascribed the abbreviation "aka," "Also Known As" to describe her works. "aka jewelllery" is a studio brand based on two concepts: - structure (the arrangement of and relations between the parts or elements of something complex) and functionality (the quality of being suited to serve a purpose well) which combine to create minimal aesthetic forms. The result is an immaculate, non-iterative design that functions as a body adornment and as an object when not worn, like a small architectural sculpture. Each aka design hand crafted in studio in Brooklyn, NY, not from a mold or mass produced but also quality pieces made for years of wear.

GIULIA BOCCAFOGLI-JEWELRY DESIGNER

Some time ago I met this girl through the halls of the RAI Tv; in the gray of the setting my attention was caught by the colorful skirt she wore, I wanted to photograph her for my column Street Style. When she turned around I noticed the necklace around her neck, then I stopped her and discovered that herself had made that necklace and that Gulia Boccafogli is in effect a jewelry designer.
Giulia makes contemporary ornaments handmade with fine recovery leather. Unique pieces for a style in the middle between the modern decadence, characterized by waves, drapes and soft lines and the tribal, with thin, suffused fetish calls.
Gulia lives and works in Bologna. She graduated in architecture, but soon abandoned the architectural career to devote herself exclusively to design jewelry. In 2007 she began the first collaborations with several boutiques and concept stores in Italy. In January 2008 she was selected to be present at Macef in Designer Club and she was invited to exhibit her work. Gulia falls in love with the skin, categorically recovery, from stock and order number, and the endless formal possibilities that it offers. In 2012 during the Milan fashion week she won the award for best designers under 35 in the category Women's Accessories, during the trade fair organized by Coool Hunter Italy.
The Gulia Boccafogli's collections are now distributed in Italy and abroad (Australia) in different and selected boutiques and online.

Giulia vive e lavora a Bologna.
